In the year 2005 the winter was rich of snow and rainfalls and therefore the water reserve in the soil was exploited at its maximum. March was somehow cooler than the standard with the consequence of a retarded and somewhat heterogeneous starting to shoot. In the months of April and May this slight delay in the shooting was then caught up. The yield however, particularly if compared to the previous year, was much smaller. This had also an advantage: we hardly had to thin out the grapes. June and July were warm and very dry and the grapes developed outstandingly. The grapes were in such healthy conditions that also the rather fresh temperatures and regular rainfalls in August could not influence their high quality. In Maremma the harvest started on 29 August with Merlot, followed by Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and after about 5 weeks it ended with Cabernet Sauvignon. In Chianti Classico the harvest began on 5 September with the Merlot and finished after 3 ½ weeks with Cabernet Sauvignon. In the cellar lie very beautiful, harmonious young wines, which already now have a remarkable elegance. The beautiful fresh fruit is perfectly tied up with the moderate alcohol.
