The year of 2003 was marked by a winter with very heavy rainfalls that lasted into spring. As the young buds at the beginning of April were just only starting to swell, they very well managed to survive the night of April 7th (frost!!) without any damage. After mid-May the vines developed extremely well due to constantly warm temperatures and large water reserves in the soil. After July we often had temperatures above 35°C but luckily some minor thunderstorms reduced and balanced the stress of heat and dryness. By the end of July we reduced the yield again to assure optimal ripeness of the grapes. Vintage started on August 26th with the harvest of the Merlot grapes and ended four weeks later with Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were all ripe in an optimal way with woody stems, healthy berries with high sugar content, good acids and rich on polyphenols. We are expecting gorgeous, well balanced and very terroirtypical wines.
