The vintage 2002 was driven by a dry winter and spring. Fortunately, in May some welcome rainfalls filled up the water reserves in the soil. This permitted a normal vegetation cycle of the young vines. A dry June led to a slower vegetation process. The ripening proceeded normally, despite of the continuous rainfalls throughout the summer, which led to the development of the Botrytis. By thinning down the plants, to supply more air circulation, we could stop the Botrytis to expand. September started out with heavy rainfalls, followed by sunny days with wide temperature variations between day and night. The average yield was about 5500 kilos/ha.
The grapes show a high sugar content and intense aromas. We are convinced that we will produce top wines with the vintage 2002.
